QUOTES
“The Lord God placed the man in the
Garden of Eden as its gardener, to tend and care for it”. (Genesis 2:15, The
living Bible Paraphrased)
"The
land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; with me you are but
aliens and tenants. Throughout the land that you hold, you shall provide for
the redemption of the land." (Leviticus 25:23-24)
"As people of religious faith, we bishops believe that the atmosphere that supports life on earth is a God-given gift, one we must respect and protect. It unites us as one human family. If we harm the atmosphere, we dishonor our Creator and the gift of creation." (The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops)
"When you appreciate something, you want to take care of it, and God's creation is no different." (Restoring Eden: Christians for Environmental Stewardship.)
“We celebrate the vision of hope and
justice for creation and dedicate ourselves anew. We will act out of the conviction that, as
the Holy Spirit renews our minds and hearts, we also must reform our habits and
social structures.” (ELCA statement, Commitments of this Church)
"Unless decisive action is taken immediately, climate chaos will lead to increased human suffering
and social upheaval condemning millions of people to hunger, disease, misery and death. Our pursuit of 'happiness and high quality of life' need not endanger other peoples, nations, communities, species and future generations that are also entitled to survival and happiness. The earth has enough resources to satisfy everyone's need, but not enough resources for anyone's greed." (African Church Leaders Statement on Climate Change and Water (2008)).
"Since climate change and the global economy now affect us all, we have to develop a sense of the oneness of humanity." Dalailama

“The earth is a planet of beauty and
abundance; the earth system is wonderfully intricate and incredibly
complex. But today living creatures, and
the air, soil, and water that support them, face unprecedented threats. Many threats are global; most stem directly
from human activity. Our current
practices may so alter the living world that it will be unable to sustain life
in the manner we know”. (ELCA statement).
"Our cautious response to these issues in the face of mounting evidence may be seen by the world as uncaring, reckless and ill-informed. We can do better. To abandon these issues to the secular world is to shirk from our responsibility to be salt and light. The time for timidity regarding God's creation is no more." (A Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change (2008)).
"As Christians, we are free in Christ to reach out in love. Given His radical grace toward us, will we choose to serve one another, or will we live in a bubble of ignorance about the outside world? If decisions can be made on an everyday basis, decisions that make sense, and ensure a cleaner and better world for us, our children, and everyone else on this planet, then why not make them?" ("A Climate for Change global warming facts for faith-based decisions" by Katharine Hayhoe and Pastor Andrew Farley, Copyright 2009)
"We are all musicians in a great human orchestra, and it is now time to play the Save the World Symphony. You are not required to play a solo, but you are required to know what instrument you hold and play it as well as you can. You are required to find your place in the score. What we love we must protect. That's what love means. From the right to know and the duty to inquire flows the obligation to act." Sandra Steingraber, an American biologist and author who writes and lectures on the environment.

FAITH BASED STATEMENTS ON CLIMATE CHANGE June 2012
Volunteers for the Citizens Climate Lobby collected these statements from faith groups around the world during 2011 and early 2012. They hope readers will find them useful in urging decision makers to take action to curb climate change. This a remarkable collection and well worth the time to review.

AUDIO
Creation Care Sermon.
Pastor Claire Cassell of Prince of Peace Burnsville spoke on Creation Care during her sermon June 21, 2015. She said that we are all entrusted by God to care for our earth. God handed or gifted this earth to us to protect it. We are partners with God to actively protect and care for it. She said that God understands that actively means everyday and not just when its convenient. This responsibility is not just for our benefit but also for our children and children's children. Her journey to this position was heartfelt and she speaks about how she has become empowered. We hope you will be inspired.

I really like the comment from the African leaders.......the Earth has enough resources to satisfy everyone's need, but not enough resources for anyone's greed.
